Roisin Conaty’s GameFace goes to series

Following the huge success of the pilot, Roisin Conaty’s self-penned sitcom GameFace has been commissioned to series by E4.

Conaty plays Marcella a character with a distinct comic voice and original world view, who despite being ever optimistic can’t quite get her life on track.

Receiving critical acclaim, the pilot episode, which aired in April 2014, introduced us to Marcella on the morning of her birthday: a day that ends at her old school delivering a speech about her highly successful (and entirely made up) career.

The 6x30 series will follow Marcella as she tries to navigate the changing landscape of her 30s all the while reflecting the absurdity and inanity of modern life.

Conaty said: “Writing narrative comedy has always been a dream of mine and I was so pleased with the response to the GameFace pilot. Now it's got a full series I'm giddy about having the chance to explore the world and characters in more detail.”

Commissioned by Rachel Springett, C4 Comedy Commissioning Editor it will be produced by Objective Productions, part of the All3 Media Group, the Executive Producer for Objective is Layla Smith and the series producer will be Charlotte Lewis.

Rachel Springett added: “Roisin is a phenomenally talented writer and performer with a unique voice, and it’s been a real privilege to work with her since her 2010 Edinburgh Newcomer win, through from her original online Blaps, two acclaimed series of Man Down, and now her own much anticipated sitcom.”
